Director - Frank Herholdt

An extremely well known stills photographer in both the UK and the US; check out Frank’s website www.frankherholdt.com for the full picture. We’ve included Frank on the Commercials Unlimited roster because Frank passionately wants to direct and just needed the backing of a production company.

Frank studied fine art in Johannesburg before coming to London where he assisted Art Kane and a number of other leading Photographers. His flirtation with classical art, combined with his admiration for Kane’s wonderfully irreverent images of contemporary culture, produced Franks unique approach.

Although he has worked for all the leading advertising agencies, Frank has resisted becoming a member of the photography establishment and continues to spend a large percentage of his time shooting his own assignments.

Frank operates from an old pub in London.

Desert Island Films

Double Playback Size

Product: Avent Babycare ‘Non-Spill Babycup’
Director: Frank Herholdt

Take a room full of toddlers, a director who is definitely one of them, stand back and turn over. Well, there was a little more to it than that, like casting the right mix, keeping everyone relaxed and happy on the day, being quick enough to spot and capture the magic bits and not losing it in the process.

We built a set rather than use a real kitchen to give us space (and space so all the mums could be on hand) and allowed plenty in the budget for stock and editing. Frank made it all so…. easy.

Frank Herholdt - Desert Island films
"Apocalypse Now "
(Francis Ford Coppola 1979)

(NOT the Redux!) - because for me this is still the best movie there is.

"Amelie Poulain"
(Jean-Pierre Jeunet 2001)

A fabulous movie that you can watch a hundred times without have seen everything

"Witness for the prosecution"
(Billy Wilder 1957)

I really like this Billy Wilder stuff!

"Lawrence of Arabia"
(David Lean 1962)

To keep the motivation up once you are in a desert.
