It was a real pleasure to work with Commercials Unlimited again. Shooting live action in a hard-to-control environment such as a shopping centre was always going to be a nerve racking experience but the detailed planning and background work done by Simon and Neil put our minds at ease. The shoot went very smoothly, as did post. Ian was the perfect director for this, creating an instant rapport with cast and passersby alike, enabling him to capture some lovely moments. One of two commercials to kick off a new campaign for BT on the Island of Ireland . The brand promise is 'freedom'.

Director Ian Sciacaluga treated the original scripts like short films about bursts of individual freedom. He has a real filmmaker's ability to tell a story without many of the clichés, including fast cutting, that so many commercials have these days.

His eye for casting is superb but what really impressed me was his total commitment to the job.

He was there every step of the way, even getting involved in the music and recording the voice over.

‘'From the onset I had a very clear vision of what we needed to achieve, so I was delighted when Commercials Unlimited proposed moving the shoot to Barcelona to overcome the problems of (potentially) poor light and cluttered environments. I was delighted too when they produced a real Atlantic cod for Red Vision to base their fish CGI on.

The deadline was extremely tight, but having Graham Collier (the animator) along on the shoot was a great help in speeding up the subsequent CGI process.

Over 70 commercials were crafted to combine live action – Kim Wilde sync to camera – with multiple product CGI’s, where the task was to seduce the viewer into believing that the products on the shelves were real before they burst into life.

Each product develops into a quirky scenario; a pack with Beckham-like skills playing ‘keepy-uppy’ with a capsule, packs waltzing a slick ‘Fred ‘n’ Ginger’ routine, a strutting supermodel with attitude and many more besides.

Without exception, all the spots have great quirk and charm whilst still retaining their essential core retail message. It was a big undertaking with time constraints too, so a huge slap on the back for everyone concerned.” Case Study
